Leos Clubs provide young people between the ages of 12 and 28 opportunity to perform service to their communities. There are more than 5,600 Leos Clubs in 138 countries.
The Leos Objective
"To provide the youth of the world with an opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national, and international community."
Each Leos Club is sponsored by a Lions Club. The sponsoring Lions Club guides and directs the Leos as follows:
- to offer young people the opportunity to help others through organized and productive service activities;
- to provide young people with the opportunity to develop leadership abilities;
- to alert young people to the circumstances of persons who are less fortunate than themselves.
The Edmonds Lions Club is proud to sponsor the Meadowdale High School Leos Club.
Club History
The Meadowdale Leos Club got its beginning in the fall of 1994 when Edmonds Lions President Charles Brady presented the idea of sponsoring a Leos Club. Lion Tom Snyder volunteered to help sponsor a club. Lion Ron Robinson volunteered to be the Leos Club advisor.
Lion Tom approached his daughter Tamara, a Junior at Meadowdale High School, about recruiting some students to start the club. Tamara explained that the National Honor Society had a requirement for 90 hours of community service; she had no trouble finding interested students. On March 29, 1995, Leo Club President Tamara Snyder, Lions Club President Charles Brady, and Leo Club Advisor Ron Robinson signed the Leo Club Organization Report and the club was born.
The official charter night was May 8, 1995 at Panzini's Restaurant on the Edmonds waterfront. District Governor Harold Rector and District Leo Chair presented the banner and bell. Multi-District Leo Chair Lynn Perkins (Simons) presented the club certificate.
By 1997 the Meadowdale High School Leos Club had grown to 50 members.
